MeganAid: Medical Expense Fund

About Megan

Megan’s life took a turn July 29, 2014 when she was critically injured in a fatal car crash. An extremely talented clarinetist, she was looking forward to her upcoming freshman year at Baylor University, where she planned to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional musician. Megan’s extensive injuries will require years of rehabilitation and a prosthesis.

Even with insurance, her family is expecting the medical expenses to be staggering. Megan’s family cannot even begin to express their appreciation for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support they’ve received from her friends, family, and the community. While we’re confident that Megan can overcome any obstacles put in her path, she can’t do it alone.

We need your help. No amount is too small.

Why "MeganAid"?

Megan dedicated her senior year to perfecting the Benny Goodman feature chart "Clarinade" for the Boswell Jazz Orchestra's varsity competition season. Her award-winning performances inspired director Dimas Delgado to nickname her "Meganade." It seemed only right that we honor Megan's love of music and jazz clarinet by referencing this endearment in our campaign to get Megan back onto the stage for her encore performance.

The Boswell Band of Gold organized a fundraiser for #MeganAid titled "Megan's Miracle Minute," where they collected donations for her after performing their marching show at halftime. They sported bright yellow #MeganAid shirts for the entire game.

Quotes About Megan

"Megan is one of the most genuine, unique and strong people that I know, and when she comes out of this tragedy, she'll be that much stronger... Megan taught me many life lessons that I hold dear to my heart, but one particular one stands out at this moment. Megan taught me that being strong is one thing, but caring is even better. The amount Megan cares for others as opposed to herself is amazing and inspiring, and I only hope I can be half the leader and friend that she has been to all of us in the band for the past 3 years."

“Megan, I just want to you to how loved you are by EVERYONE. I have never seen you without a smile on your face and your energy always flowed to others... You are one of the sweetest I have ever met and you always made me want to be the person you are."

"You never know how close-knit a community is until a tragedy happens. I was never extremely close to Megan Ritzi but we had many classes together including marching, symphonic, and jazz band. It warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes to see how loving everyone can be towards someone they either barely know or, like me, know as some one who always came to band with a smile on their face. We all love Megan and love what she's done to change our lives and now it's our time to change hers by helping her in her time of need by reaching out to our close-knit community who loves Megan just as much."
