Centennial High Film Program

Donation protected

The pilot program aims to prepare our students for the creative job market of the 21st century  by providing them an opportunity: to learn technical filmmaking skills that will prepare them for the competitive career job market, acquire media arts literacy and a historical perspective of the arts, and develop critical thinking skills that will drive their self-reflection, craft and relation to the world.

As a Title 1 school, Centennial High faces the many challenges that our public schools encounter within our low-resourced communities. Asides from the institutional barriers that we face in our schools, one of the greatest is the lack of programming. There is so much we can do with the out of school factors that impact student attendance and engagement, however, we do have agency in creating programs to inspire our students to be their best selves.

Not only do the schools need arts, the art industry is lacking diversity. The job market for the creative career field is all the more growing with the development of technology and social media. It is difficult to project the main source of income for our next generation because of this shifts. If anything, now is the time to set up strong arts programming our our schools to ensure our students have an equal playing field in their future careers. This program will act as bridge between students and the jobs that exist in the creative arts industry.
