Bring the Center for Wildlife Home
Donation protected
In collaboration with the York Water District, the Center for Wildlife in Cape Neddick, ME has an opportunity to purchase eight (8) acres of land from the Town of York.
The purchase of this land will allow us to build a new facility to accommodate the growing demand for wildlife care and education programs in our region.
We need to raise $80,000 by May 2016 to acquire this new land. With the help of some very generous donors, we have already raised $76,000. We are calling on you to help us cross the finish line!
A bit about the new land:
- It is eight (8) acres that adjoins CFW’s current space.
- The land was offered to CFW at a cost just below fair market value.
- The land contains vernal pools, which will allow us to enhance our educational programs.
- The land adjoins Mount Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative, so it will remain undeveloped natural habitat.
- This purchase is part of a long-term strategic plan to address the increased need for services.
- Many of our existing outdoor facilities are situated on the new parcel, mitigating the cost of completely re-building our 45 outdoor structures.
The Center for Wildlife's mission is to build a sustainable future for wildlife in our community through medical treatment, educational outreach, research, and conservation activities.
We admit an average of 1,600 animals to our medical clinic annually, representing over 190 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. These animals come from more than 120 communities along the Seacoast in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
Our organization receives NO state or federal funding. All of our income comes from the generosity of individuals in our community, local businesses, and grants. We have a small staff of five, and achieve our mission with the help of over 100 volunteers, college interns, and medical apprentices.
