Central Florida Brain Bee

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Joseph Bello, and on February 25th I hosted the first ever Central Florida Brain Bee for high school students at UCF and it was a huge success! The students loved it and am very excited to say that I will be hosting it again next year. Any donations made from this point on will be used toward next years Brain Bee!

The Brain Bee is a competition in which high school students have to study various different topics in Neuroscience (brain anatomy, functions, current research, diseases, etc.) and are then tested and questioned on the material to determine who learned and understood the most.

The aim of the Brain Bee is to expose young minds to modern neuroscience in hopes of sparking interest in higher education and at the same time spread awareness about diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and others that currently have no cure.

The money you donate will go toward organizing the 2018 Brain Bee - food, prizes, T-shirts, and certificates for the students that are participating. The goal is to have enough money to send the first place winner along with a chaperone to the U.S. National Brain Bee that will take place in mid-march, where they will compete with other students from across the country.

I personally am passionate about neuroscience, but I was not exposed to it until the end of my third year of college. By that time I had already taken most of my electives and was unable to take classes that I would've really enjoyed had I opted for the neuroscience path earlier on. I want to expose these students to the field early on so that if it is something that they want to pursue, they will have the chance to do so.

I have already reached out to several high schools that have established neuroscience clubs specifically for this event, where they study together and quiz one another. Myself along with some UCF students from the Neuroscience Alliance (a neuroscience club on campus) have visited several of these high schools and have met many of these wonderful students and I can tell you that this competition is really making a difference. I am very excited for this opportunity to help our community's youth by guiding them and exposing them to modern science and medicine.

The more donations I am able to get, the better I will be able to make this event in hopes of turning this into an ongoing annual  competition here in Central Florida.

Those that donate will be mentioned in both the printed program and announced on the day of the event, and if your donation is over $100 I would like to have your name or logo printed on the T-shirts that will be given to the students (unless you would prefer to remain anonymous).

Any little bit helps. Help me make this event a tradition for Central Florida. Thank you!
