Central Studio and Café
Central Studio and Cafe is a 600 sq meter building that used to be a Football club. June Lennon and Martin Edwards purchased the property in 2002 in a poor state of repair.
Over the next ten years we gradually upgraded the whole building and installed sound and video equipment. We have used the building for various events but we still have not completed all the work we wish to do. We still need to finish the recording control room, the childrens play area and the memorial garden.
In January last year I fell behind on the mortgage payment because I was acquiring recording equipment via some quite rare opportunities. My family and I are using our considerable experience in the community to develop a space that can be used for economic development, healing and cultural development.
The situation has become critical with the bank asking the court to take the biulding.
We could still save the project if people chose to help.
We are engaged in developing healing programs, management software systems, internet TV broadcasting, a private cloud, Protools 10 HD recording studio, live performance venue and café. We own most of the hardware required to complete the project.
We are developing software for community management that will be managed via the cloud.
We provide space for community meetings, AGM’s, wakes, functions such as Naidoc balls and birthday parties. The space is safe and secure and culturally appropriate. Management is by family and is done in the traditional manner, that is why it works. The whole community will benefit from this project especially the youth as there is no facilities like this for at least 300kms.This development should be a model for other communities and can only be continued with public support.
We have never have and never will accept funding from government agencies as it is our experience that accepting government funding is generally a recipe for disaster. Self-determination works if it is allowed to occur. We believe in Empowerisation of the community in a holistic way with the planning and decision making done in the traditional manner.
We have tried very hard for many years to do this on our own. I now find us in the position that if we don’t ask for help we may lose it all.
