About Centro Nana;
The "Centro Interculturale Nanà" (Intercultural Center Nanà) was established in 2004 as part of the Dedalus social cooperative group, and is located in the heart of Naples, Italy. Centro Nana is an open space for discussion on issues of diversity, intercultural sharing and integration. Like a Nana (grandma) Centro Nana provides a welcoming and caring space for many of Italy's most at risk communities, such as children, women and migrants. By providing special assistance, educational and recreational programs and mentoring Nana functions as a safe place for those facing immense hardships to escape, have fun, as well as have their voice heard.

Our aim:
The International Napoli Network, and the volunteers at IVHQ's Naples program want to transform Centro Nana! Our aim is to help provide a safe haven in this busy city, for those seeking refuge from the most extreme cases of violence and hardship. We plan to do this through 2 main projects.
A communal and multicultural Library: (Started 05/09/2017
The library bookcase will be shaped like a tree, with the branches (shelves) growing across the room. Each large branch will feature books from a different language: English, Italian, French and Arabic.
The Library will operate as a book swap. The currency for borrowing a book, is exchanging it for another one. In this way we aim to promote individual responsibility, as well as foster a culture of education, discussion and sharing.
Outdoor Oasis:
Located in the bustling and busy Napoli center, the courtyard of Centro Nana provides a unique opportunity to create a quiet place to escape. Due to a lack of funds the courtyard is currently empty and filled with concrete. We want to change this.
Firstly, we will transform the wooden fence into a colorful custom mural that will be painted by the Nana community. Ideally, we want to cover the concrete with AstroTurf, with some outdoor chairs to provide a quiet and relaxing place that is more reminiscent of a garden. In front of the wire fence we want to place planter boxes with fresh fruits and vegetables that will be planted and tended to by Nana's community.
Every year hundreds of migrants, and people at risk walk through the doors of Centro Nana, and despite the crucial work they do, they are crucially underfunded. Together with your support we can transform Centro Nana, and give it the love and support it truely needs!
