Chaffin Quizbowl Goes to Nationals!
L.A. Chaffin Jr. High is a public junior high school in Fort Smith, Arkansas that proudly holds the title of 7A's 2017 Quiz Bowl State Championship. We are thus seeking necessary funding to be able to compete in the National Finals held in Washington D.C. in May of 2017.
Each member of our National Quiz Bowl team has dedicated multiple hours both before and after school in order to best prepare for the upcoming championship finals. We humbly ask that you consider helping us reach our financial goal as we continue to meet our academic goal.
We will leave for Nationals on May 31st and will compete through June 5th.
Quiz Bowl is a fast-paced academic challenge, based around trivia. Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture.
The defining feature of quiz bowl is the use of a “buzzer system” (or, more formally, a “lockout device”) that lets players interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer. This element adds a dimension of confidence, anticipation, and rapid recall to what is primarily a game about knowing off-the-wall facts. These questions are answered mostly as an individual, but during certain rounds teammates can consult with one another.
Chaffin competed in the final game against Pulaski Heights-Little Rock, to achieve the winning title with a final score of 375-245. To date, Chaffin boasts individual excellence in the form of All-Star awards throughout the competitive season. The students recognized for these achievements are Mahdir Anower, Noah Risley, Haris Rana, Vivian Apple, Garrett Locknar, Anna Tilley, Leyton Elmore, and Jackson Wollschied. Our Varsity team is undefeated this season in tournament play.
The Quiz Bowl team will be utlizing the aquired funds to manage travel fees, tournament costs, and to purchase practice materials. We will thankfully accept all donations, but if you are able to donate $100 or more, we will send you an update from Nationals on a D.C. post card!
