Charity Packages for the Homeless

Dear Reader,

A few days ago, my grandfather, Arezki Aït Belkacem, passed away due to breathing problems.

Death is not easy to cope with. What's even worse is being miles away from home and not even being able to attend the funeral or support your other family members. I was distraught. When someone you cherish passes away it turns your life around.

I then spoke to one of my dearest friends, Malak Obaidi about what I was going through and she, as always, welcomed me with open arms.

Malak lost her brother in 2014. Marwan Obaidi, a deeply loved member of our community back in Abu Dhabi passed away after years of persevering and countless hospital visits.  To do justice to the love that poured out of this tragic passing, I let Malak's letter to Marwan speak to adequately capture not only the unbreakable bond between her and her brother but also the goodness that Marwan stood for.

"Marwan my hilarious, witty, stubborn, inspiring brother, you've made it. You've made it to the place you've always been dreaming of, you'll be walking on your own feet now, and you'll be breathing effortlessly with your own lungs. You've changed so many lives across the globe and there is no one on this planet that has ever thought badly about you. You are our inspiration, to keep fighting because that's what you did, you fought. All the wires and tubes and helplessness, you fought it and you won the battle. Heaven is your prize so walk into it with pride and know that me and mum and dad and mus love you endlessly. You made our lives worth living and I look up to you with so much adoration. I hope I make you a proud brother Marwheezy because I breathe and walk for you.

Rest in peace my ray of sunshine Marwan O'Brando <3"

                                                                         1st of October, 2014.

During this period of grieving, Malak and I decided to stand for a cause of giving to honour the people who have left us and who have been taken away from us too early.

Our plan was to create packages that would be distributed to the homeless and the needy that would contain food that we would make ourselves and other necessary items for hygeinic and sanitary purposes as we are all aware that without a stable roof over your head it's hard to find a reliable place to stay clean and feel safe and loved. We made a realistic goal of distributing to at least 100 people but depending to the resources that we can afford and gather, it can vary.

We have turned to this website as Malak and I are students with limited funds (student life!) and are hoping that any donation that comes through would help us buy the resources to make this happen. This is quite a small scale project as of now as Malak and I will be working together as a team but only comprised of two of us. I do work 6 days a week and Malak's schedule varies greatly with working weekend days too so we will do our best to make this work.

I hope that you can spare anything for us to make more smiles happen.

Spread the love.

Yours Sincerely,

Lydia Ait Belkacem <3
