At Accessible Community, we understand the challenges of living with a disability. We are building a web application to make it easier for people with disabilities to find places where we can participate. We need to raise $10,000 to cover cloud costs for the first year.
Please help us make our vision of more accessible communities a reality.
Background
We often speak with smaller organizations in our community about accessibility. The response we hear is "If I put in the work to make my organization accessible, how do I let people with disabilities know about it?" Its a great question - one Accessible Community is working to answer.
Accessible Community is a volunteer run nonprofit staffed by people with disabilities and family members of people with disabilities. We are launching a web application called loca11y to connect people with disabilities and organizations that support them.
loca11y will provide a place where:
- organizations that provide accommodations and services can reach the disability community,
- people with disabilities can search for organizations by the disabilities supported, and
- people with disabilities can recommend organizations where they have been successful.
We won a labor grant from
Toptal which helped us develop the first phase of the web application and we are ready to pilot it in Loudoun County, Virginia. Our long term goal is to scale
loca11y, community by community, throughout the United States and eventually the world.
We believe that making accessibility a visible market advantage for organizations will raise awareness and encourage smaller organizations improve their accessibility and accommodations.
How can you help?
Please help us launch loca11y by donating any amount you can. Every little bit will help us meet our goal. Because everyone at Accessible Community volunteers their time, 100% of your donations will go directly to supporting loca11y.
Thank you for helping us make our communities more accessible.
