Ruby's Bat Mitzvah Project - Build Well in Africa
For my upcoming Bat Mitzvah, I will be raising money to build a well in west Africa. I will be working with the grassroots nonprofit Africa Heartwood Project to make sure the well is sustainable, participatory and maintained. This idea came from reading books this year that made me realize how long many people have to walk daily to access even muddy water.
Through my Bat Mitzvah studies with my Hebrew teacher, I have learned about the prophetess Miriam, and how she led the women with her dancing and her timbrels through the wilderness to Miriam's well, which made me think about the miracles of freedom and of water.
This summer I will babysit and give horseback riding lessons and donate all of my earnings towards this cause to build a well in Africa. I also ask that instead of Bat Mitzvah gifts, that you might please consider donating to this cause with me. As the well is being built, I will add details and phots to this website. Thank you!
