Every day, nearly 800 children around the world are diagnosed with cancer, amounting to an estimated 300,000 new cases of cancer affecting children under the age of 20 each year worldwide. Despite these alarming numbers, childhood cancer research remains vastly and critically underfunded, receiving less than 4% of the federal government’s annual research funding.
At UCLA, our Nano Team's research, led by Dr. Steven Jonas, focuses on developing cutting-edge nanotechnologies to advance personalized, precision medicine-based diagnostics and treatment strategies for childhood cancer. Dr. Jonas, an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Young Investigator awardee, is a pediatric oncologist and physician scientist at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine & Mattel Children’s Hospital, the California NanoSystems Institute, and the Broad Stem Cell Research Center.
Our team is deeply committed to conquering childhood cancer, but we cannot do it alone. With your support, we can raise much-needed awareness and funding for childhood cancer research UCLA-wide, nationwide, and worldwide.
As a member of the team aiming to boost our fundraising efforts, I invite you to donate or pledge with the UCLA Nano Transformers Team for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s (ALSF) 2024 Million Mile. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer. Please donate or pledge through the following link: https://www.alexslemonade.org/node/3866885/donate?member=3111795
