Hi, my name is Katelyn Guzman, and I run Churro and Sassy the Pitbulls along with the Churro and Sassy Project—a mission dedicated to spreading awareness about the importance of adopting animals instead of buying from breeders or pet stores.

Let me introduce you to the two incredible dogs who inspired this journey:

Churro is an 8-year-old pit bull I rescued after he was found as a stray and brought to Norah’s Ark shelter in New Mexico. Sadly, no one ever came to claim him. Fortunately, All Aboard Animal Rescue, an amazing organization that partners with shelters in New Mexico, stepped in to save him—and that’s how he ended up in my care.

Sassy, originally named Sarah, also came from New Mexico. She was part of a large litter whose parents were tragically and selfishly killed. The surviving puppies were taken to a sister shelter, where Sassy was later rescued. Today, she’s thriving and loved.

So why am I asking for your support? And why All Aboard?

Because this organization has saved countless lives—including my two best friends. Their care doesn’t stop once the animals are adopted—they go above and beyond. A few months ago, Churro had a sudden health scare. I came home to find him limp and unresponsive. While I was bracing for financial hardship, All Aboard stepped in without hesitation and covered almost all of his emergency care. I was left with just a $30 bill. That kind of support is priceless.

I’m launching this GoFundMe to give back to All Aboard Animal Rescue, and 100% of the funds raised will go directly to them. In addition, I’ve created an Amazon wishlist that includes supplies for my current and future foster dogs—everything from toys and name tags to collars for their forever homes.

Help Me Accomplish My Life Dream and Save Animals

The mission of Lungo Animal Project is to organize fundraisers that empower animal rescues to save more dogs and cats at risk of losing their lives in high-kill shelters. Every dollar raised through Lungo’s fundraisers goes directly to the rescue organizations we partner with, ensuring that all donations are dedicated to saving lives and providing these animals with the love and care they deserve.

Over 6.5 million dogs and cats entered U.S. shelters, with more than 359,000 dogs and 330,000 cats euthanized due to overcrowding and limited resources. This equates to approximately 1,890 dogs and cats losing their lives each day.

Since 2022, I have been a proud part of All Aboard Animal Rescue, an organization that inspires me daily with their commitment to saving animals and educating communities about the importance of rescue efforts.

Currently, Lungo is raising funds for All Aboard Animal Rescue to help save as many dogs and cats as possible from euthanasia lists. All 12 animals above have already been rescued!

***Update***: We are increasing our GoFundMe goal by $1,000 to support Freddy, our first heartworm-positive rescue. Freddy was found in desperate conditions, and with your help, we can provide the necessary medical treatment, foster care, and transport to give him a second chance at life. Your generous donations will directly impact Freddy’s journey to health and happiness.

***update*** We are adding funds to cover Nelly’s eye removal surgery and heartworm treatment. These critical medical expenses are necessary to save his life.

For those of you that know me, you likely know that over the past two years, I have become very involved with All Aboard Animal Rescue here in Fort Collins. I have thoroughly enjoyed the volunteering and fostering experience I have gained through All Aboard, and I adopted my dog, Beau, from them in 2024. AAAR is undoubtedly one of the greatest things I have ever had the pleasure of being a small part of. Their mission is inspiring, and the team is composed of dedicated, kind, and passionate individuals. These individuals spend every day working tirelessly to save dogs and cats from the euthanasia list and find their forever homes. In 2024 alone, they were able to save the lives of 757 animals, many of which have since found homes. In an attempt to give back to this amazing organization, I am teaming up with them to complete my Senior Honors Thesis. As a part of the Honors Program here at CSU, we must complete a thesis project in order to graduate. I feel lucky to have found a way to combine this requirement with my passion for animals and gratitude for AAAR, by organizing and executing a community service project alongside the nonprofit.
