I'm Jeff Werner, a husband, the father to Sydney and Chase, and a coach at Conrad Weiser. As many of you know, I'm passionate about coaching cross country and track and field at Conrad Weiser High School, but today, I actually need to run for a different purpose.

Recently, I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. It’s been a challenging journey, but thanks to the love and support of family, friends, and colleagues I'm battling this illness with confidence and grit.

With that said, I’m turning my battle into a mission.

On Sunday, December 8th, I’ll be running in the 2024 Nittany Valley Half Marathon (State College, PA) to raise money for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). Every step I take will be dedicated to those fighting this disease, to the researchers finding cures, and to the loved ones we’ve lost too soon.

Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It touches all of us—friends, family, and even the strongest among us. But together, we can make a difference. By supporting AACR, you’re funding life-saving research that brings us one step closer to a cure.

The goal of the Miles Project Event is to raise as much money as possible for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) - Specifically, their nonprofit charity, The AACR Foundation for the Prevention and Cure of Cancer. The AACR is the world's first founded and largest organization dedicated to completely conquering cancer. Read more about them at aacr.org. It is a 501(c)(3) charity "dedicated to accelerating the conquest of cancer."

The Miles Project Crew will run one mile each hour for 24 hours, from midnight to midnight, to draw attention and raise awareness as well as funds.

Hey friends and family. This is something that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. I am starting this fundraiser to help donate money to the American Association for Cancer Research. I lost my Dad to stage 4 lung cancer when I was 14. I cannot fathom how much losing my Dad at such a young age was going to impact my life. My Dad’s ultimate defeat to cancer completely changed the trajectory of my life. Losing my best friend is a pain that will never go away, unfortunately, but I wanna utilize this pain I have in my heart and use it to do something good. I never want any loved ones to experience such excruciating pain stemming from losing a loved one at a young age or potentially getting this horrific disease that has taken so many lives. I wanna help raise as much money as I can for these courageous scientists & oncologists who spend endless hours trying to work on breakthroughs in cancer research. Since 1993, the AACR has awarded more than $547 million in grants to more than 3,400 scientists for research projects that aim to advance the understanding and treatment of cancer. Please join me on this journey and help fundraise something that means everything to me. Any contribution is greatly appreciated. $1 can make a difference. And yes, for every $5 that is donated, I will run 1 mile. I will partake in running outside if the weather is nice or at the gym.
