Kids for Le Korsa

In February, my mom asked me to go on a trip with her to Senegal. A friend of hers, Nicholas Fox Weber, had started an organization in Senegal called Le Korsa, American Friends of Le Korsa. Le Korsa has been supporting life-saving projects in Senegal since 2005.

Before I went to Senegal, I didn’t know much about it except that it was a country in Africa. What I found was a country with a beautiful countryside and the most friendly and welcoming people. I also got to witness firsthand the amazing work of Le Korsa and how it has transformed these remote, underserved communities.

Le Korsa supports everything from medical clinics in remote rural areas, schools in rural areas and some water well projects that provide water to very remote rural villages (supporting local gardens that provide critical food for the Senegalese that live in those areas).  

It turns out that one of the clinics that we visited, desperately needs a new ambulance. I saw that myself when I visited. I couldn’t believe this truck was an ambulance. It’s one of the pictures you see up top! After I got home, I talked to my mom about what I could do to help. We contacted the Executive Director of Le Korsa, Allegra Itsoga to ask what projects I could help to fundraise for. I am working to raise $25,000 for this new ambulance for Le Korsa and the Wassadou Medical Center.

I am doing that by doing what I’m calling Kids for Le Korsa – friends and kids from my school, and my community who want to help fundraise for this project through drives, or through their own fundraising. (like selling things at our local Farmer’s market, car washes – anything!).
