GPI Goes Red for Women's Health in 2025
On Friday, February 7th, GPI's men and women will unite for a common goal: eliminating heart disease and stroke for women. Heart disease is the number one killer of women. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), "Nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented." Cardiovascular disease continues to be a woman's most significant health threat, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. That's a third of mothers, sisters, and friends. It's time to change this fact. It's time to be demanding regarding women's heart health and ask others to do the same.

Join the national GO RED movement and help raise awareness of women's heart health!

GPI is also committed to raising $1,000 to support the AHA and creating a Wear Red and Give Day funding campaign. Please consider giving in honor of the mothers, sisters, and friends you can't bear to live without. We want to support women and families affected by a disease, claiming an alarming number of our community.

Donate, take a picture wearing something red, and include #GPIGoesRed and #GPIConnect when you post your photo to your social media. A random photo will be selected for a $50 gift card.

The Hungry Hearts Club is organizing a month-long fundraiser event to raise money for the American Heart Association. Students and staff are invited to make donations of any amount, with each dollar representing one paper heart on a donation wall in the café. Every paper heart will be labeled with the donor’s name, creating a visual display of support. The goal is to fill the entire wall by the end of February.

Run for Monish: Honoring His Marathon Dream
Hi friends. I am organizing this fundraiser in memory of my beloved cousin-in-law, Monish Sarkar, who sadly passed away on Sep 8, 2024. Monish was multi-talented, and his interests included cooking, camping, football, music, running, and woodworking, to name a few. In family gatherings, he was always the life and soul, connecting with everyone, making them laugh, and just having a good time. In his passing, we have lost a very dear family member and close friend who will always be missed.

Monish had participated in several half and full marathons in the past and was training to run in late 2024 and early 2025. The Houston marathon was also on his bucket list. He had told me on several occasions that he wanted to run the race with me. So on Jan 19th, 2025, I will be running the half marathon carrying his memories. Please help me reach the fundraising goal and donate the proceeds to AHA in his memory.

This year will be three years without him, and I want to do something kind to honor his memory. Anyone that knew my father knew him for his kindness, which he radiated and gave freely. As my sister described, Dad was like the sunshine you feel on your face when you step outside on the first warm spring day of the year. We all miss you terribly Dad ❤️
