Dear Katalians,

Our hearts go out to our colleague Chris Dion, who recently experienced the unimaginable loss of both his mother and his father within the same week. During this difficult time, many of us have asked how we can offer support.

To honor the memory of Chris's parents, Michael C. Dion Sr. and Ann Carol Dion, and provide a meaningful way for employees to show their care, we’ve created a voluntary donation fund. Contributions will be made in their memory to the American Heart Association (AHA), reflecting a cause that is close and dear to Chris's family.

Participation is completely optional, and any amount is appreciated.

As I head towards my 60th birthday (Yikes!), I wanted to do something special while thinking of my father who passed away many years ago when he turned this same age.

From September 12th to November 12th (the big day!), I will be doing 60 minutes of exercise each day for sixty days, donating $60/day to the American Heart Association. "60 for 60 for $60" to keep my heart pumping!

The American Heart Association is a terrific organization that fights against the #1 killer in the US. From research to advocation, they have and continue to make an impact on millions of people’s lives around the world.

Hello! My name is Ella Murphy, and I’m training to run my first big race, the Harborside Half-Marathon, on November 10, 2024. My goal is to raise money for the American Heart Association. Last April, I witnessed my grandmother having a heart attack. Fortunately, my mother and I were visiting and called for help, and my grandmother survived. My grandfather is also alive and thriving thanks to the heart valve replacement surgery he had 11 years ago. I am running this race in their honor and hope that you’ll join me in celebrating their lives with a donation to the American Heart Association!

My name is Aimee Papa. Our family wanted to start this GoFundMe in honor of Mildred Papa. A wife, mother, sister, friend, and community member. She felt very strongly about heart and stroke research when she worked for Virginia Mason. She was a person who supported and gave to the community throughout her life. My dad, Steve DeCamp, suffered from cancer and heart disease for 11 years.

We had to watch him live a life where he couldn't do as he pleased for over a decade. It broke my heart and currently fuels my everyday desire to help those who need it the most.

Hello! My name is Charlotte Sturgis, I am a senior at St. John Paul II High School, and I'm raising money for the American Heart Association. On July 7, 2019, I lost my dad to an unexpected heart attack. My dad's name is Jason Sturgis. He was a 19-year veteran of the Barnstable Police Department, and one of the most respected officers within the community. He worked to change lives, protect the people around him, and always wanted to make a change. On top of this, he never failed to make everyone laugh so hard that their stomachs would hurt. His passing greatly impacted my family, especially my mother, who now had to take care of three children on her own, all under the ages of thirteen. The amount of support we received from the community was incredible. Since then, I have been adamant about giving back, and reciprocating the support that was given to my family.

I have titled my fundraiser "Draw For A Cure," since I'm going to be fundraising at my senior night lacrosse game on May 16th. On top of this GoFundMe, I will be selling red rubber bracelets with my dad's badge number (236) on them, along with my fundraiser title.

Last summer three weeks after participating in a bike road race called Tour de Gap in Abilene, Texas, a race in which I barely missed the podium (5th place) for my age group, I was, with no symptoms or prior heart issues diagnosed by my primary physician and a follow up cardiologist (following extensive testing) with a large aneurysm in my ascending aorta. Within weeks of diagnosis I had urgent major open heart surgery at the Cleveland clinic. My cardiologist told me it was an absolute miracle that I did not suddenly die on those roads outside Abilene while riding in the race.. Less than one year later with a new artificial heart valve and synthetic conduit on the anscending aorta I am back to near 100% good health and back on my bike training to race Tour de Gap once again this July. I am grateful to simply be alive and as part of my training this June I am participating in the American Heart Assiciation Bile 100 miles charity with all funds raised going to support the American Heart Association.

In honor of my grandfather, Papa (Bill Furbush), I will be raising money for the American Heart Association. He struggled with heart issues in the last years of his life, and ultimately, passed due Congestive Heart Failure.

One of the many things I learned from

Papa is to give and support others. Both him and his wife, Weezie, have been volunteers and active in the communities where they have lived participating with such things as on the boards of the Palmer Drug Abuse Program, the Forest Club, Hunters Creek Board of Adjustment, Architect for the Sunshine Kids, Hunt Preservation Society, PTA, Easter Seals, Hunt Garden Club, Greystone Auxiliary, Hunt Methodist Church, Sweet Potato Queens, the Hunt School Mentors, the Big Brothers organization, etc.

I will be running a marathon in honor of him on May 5, 2024, and my goal is to honor him with that race and by raising money for research for the American Heart Association.
