ACTS Ocotal Piped Water Distribution Project
This page is dedicated to raising funds needed to complete the final phase of the Ocotal Water Distribution Project. Construction on this system for just shy of 500 residents began with installing two source boxes to capture natural spring water up in the mountains above the village in 2019. After a delay due to COVID-19, the project's next phase was initiated in early 2022. Two teams of engineers from the US went down to Honduras in May and July of 2022. Their efforts supported dozens of villagers who worked tirelessly to trench and install almost four miles of transmission and distribution lines in some of the Yoro region's most challenging terrain. In addition, several pipe bridge crossings will eventually be needed along the main transmission line as it traverses gullies and ravines and then crosses the Locomapa River on its way into the center of Ocotal. On the July trip, the engineers installed the East and West concrete bridge abutments for this crossing and gathered critical data for the upcoming tank construction and distribution system to the villager's homes.
In 2023, with these funds, our travel teams plan to construct the main water distribution tank, as well as the individual distribution lines to each home in the village. We are within striking distance of our goal thanks to many generous donors, including several corporate donors in the Greater Boston Region. With your support, we will be able to bring clean water to this deserving community!
Projected Cost to Completion for Distribution Tank and System Construction: $65,000
Cash on Hand for the Ocotal Water Project (Raised to Date): $15,650
Go Fund Me Fundraising Goal: $25,000
Balance Fundraising Remainder (Targeted for Corporate Partners): $24,350
