A Wrinkle in Time Field Trip
My students started out their 8th grade year reading the beautifully strange novel A WRINKLE IN TIME by Madeileine L'Engle. They tracked Meg's "Hero's Journey," from her "Call to Adventure" where she tessers or wrinkles across dimensions to other worlds, to her encounters with "Supernatural Aids" called Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. They wrote about how she overcomes her "Road of Trials" in the form of one IT and Black Thing until finally finding her "Ultimate Boon" in her missing father and disjointed self.
Our school is a Title 1 middle school in Oakland, CA serving students primarily from the Fruitvale and Chinatown neighborhoods. Last year we won a Gold Ribbon for the sustained excellence our students have created through their dedication and hard work.
In short, my school doesn't have much money for field trips and I want to take them to see Ava Duverney's interpretation of the classic this spring.
I have 97 students. On Tuesdays at the Alameda Theatre & Cineplex, it is $5.50 for a movie ticket.
That is $535.50 for the students.
We will need to charter two buses, which costs about $2,000.
Hence, I am looking to raise about $2,535.50.
If you donate $5.00, one of my students will draw you a neat stussy.
If you donate $10.00, my student who sends daily Youtubes to my work email can send daily Youtubes to your work email as well.
If you donate $15.00, one of my students will write a review of the movie for you, so that you can see if you want to watch the film or not.
If you donate $30.00, one of my students will record your voicemail for you.
