Meet Alfred

Alfred is just 12 years old, but he has already endured more suffering than most of us can imagine. His father, a soldier, was killed in the civil war in the country directly north of Uganda. During that same violence, rebels set Alfred on fire. He survived — but the burns left deep scars that cause him constant pain and limit his ability to eat, move, and live a normal childhood.

Today, Alfred and his mother are struggling to survive in Palabek Refugee Settlement in Northern Uganda. Despite everything, Alfred still carries hope in his eyes.

Why Alfred Needs Your Help

Alfred’s burns are severe and cannot heal on their own. Doctors have confirmed that he will need 3–4 stages of complex reconstructive plastic surgery to restore movement and ease his pain.

Each surgery costs over $2,000 USD, and the full treatment will require $6,000–$8,000. For a refugee family with no resources, this cost is impossible. But together, we can make it possible.

Our teams have already served thousands in Uganda through free medical and surgical outreach. Amigos Internacionales is looking forward to helping support and strengthens the disadvantaged children of the rural area of Ogul village, Uganda. We aim to build a proposed Kindergarten/Early Childhood Development Centre to enable them to access low-cost quality education.

Expansion of the school to provide primary education to the learners will further improve the quality of basic education by increasing equitable access, quality, and sustainability of primary education that is inclusive and innovative. The expansion of the school to accommodate higher grades will lead to adolescent development as the older children will have access to information, life skills, and essential services, to reduce their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy, violence, and poverty. But for this, we need your help!

The vision behind the drive:

According to UNICEF, Uganda, like many Sub-Saharan African countries, faces major challenges in providing quality and accessible basic education to children and adolescents. 1 out of every 10 children between 3 and 5 years of age is enrolled in pre-primary education. Only 1 in 4 children who start primary school makes it to secondary school. Whereas only less than 40% of students are literate at the end of primary school. Most public schools in the Gulu area just like the rest of the country face huge challenges due to their lack of facilities. This makes it far harder for the children to learn, and for the teachers to teach to a reasonable standard

Who is Amigos Internacionales?

Amigos Internacionales, Inc. is an NGO founded in 1967 with a mission to provide emergency services and disaster relief help throughout the world. It continues to strive to meet basic human needs in crisis situations and exists to do what God has called us to do which is to meet human needs and share Jesus with others. As Amigos we cannot afford to have hundreds of children leave school without basic literacy and numeracy skills. This is why we are working with the community of Ogul Village in the Gulu area through Amigos to build an inclusive, relevant, and accessible education and keep the children learning like the majority of their counterparts in the city.

Our Goal:

Committed to fighting the effect of rising inflation on child education, Amigos is determined to leave no more children deprived of education just because they did not have potential resources. Our ultimate goal is to raise around $100,000 to buy a school in Gulu and expand it to include a secondary school and trade school opportunities so that these children can have enough resources to help build the desired life. We have purchased an additional 8 acres of cultivated land (including a Eucalyptus farm) to help provide economic lift projects for the impoverished community as well.

Water for Africa:

You can make a difference by partnering with Amigos Internacionales, Inc. to drill life-saving, life-changing deep water wells. At only $8,500 a well, we drill down 60-80 meters below the surface water that can be contaminated with runoff. This brings water free of waterborne pathogens and other issues like typhoid, diphtheria, and hepatitis.

You can be a part of changing a child's life for the better. Your giving will help us drill a water well in the village of Padibe in Northern Uganda. Clean, disease-free water wells save lives. We also build a school on this site to educate the villager's children! Donations give life and love to children in their greatest need.
