COVID-19 Anjali House Emergency Appeal
While Cambodia has reported relatively few COVID-19 cases (122 as of 28 April), the impact of the pandemic has been severe. This is especially true in Siem Reap, where many families subsist on tourism.
Those who were already vulnerable, like the families Anjali House serves, are struggling to feed themselves and their children. They will receive no form of social security benefits. Many of our parents have lost all sources of income and have an urgent need for food support.
We are already distributing emergency food and hygiene packages to ten of our most at-risk families. These families are majority single parent households, with an income of less than $1500 per year before the pandemic. They are trying to feed as many as five children.
We urgently need to raise enough money to cover emergency food and hygiene supply costs for ALL of our families during this crisis. Can you help?
Provide emergency food support
At the moment, 50 Anjali families have an urgent need for emergency food supplies. In the following months, we expect all 101 Anjali families will need this support. We aim to provide food relief through the end of the year, when we hope tourism will return to Siem Reap. Even if schools and educational programs like Anjali House can reopen sooner, our families will continue to need increased support.
An emergency food and hygiene package for one family costs $35 every month. To feed all 101 families until January 2021, we need to raise $28,280. Here’s how you can help:
$35 covers food for 1 month’s food supply for an Anjali family
$105 covers food for 3 families for a month
$280 covers food for an Anjali family through the end of the year
$350 covers food for our 10 most at-risk families for one month
$1000 covers food for nearly 30 Anjali families for one month
100% of proceeds will go toward feeding Anjali House families. Any additional funds will be used to address our community’s other needs.
What are you providing?
Each emergency package includes food like rice, noodles, eggs, and canned fish. The packs also include hand soap, laundry detergent, and other necessary supplies.
These emergency packages are in addition to Anjali’s continued educational program, provision of seeds from the Anjali garden, and lending program of art and learning supplies as well as library books. All Anjali House families receive information about COVID-19 and how to protect themselves through measures like hand washing and social distancing.
