As the old Mr. Rogers saying goes, I always look for the helpers. Professional firefighters are rightly celebrated members of our community. But they are not the only ones heroically working to save our homes and our lives.

There are nearly 1,000 incarcerated firefighters currently battling the LA fires. As part of a voluntary program, they earn between $5.80 to $10.24 per day, working in 24 hour shifts.

They deserve not only to be held up as heroes, but paid back for sacrificing their safety for ours. They may spend most of the year incarcerated, but when we need them, they show up for us, and they are no less members of our community than anyone who is free. What's more, supporting them now makes it more likely they integrate better when they are ultimately released.

Every dollar you donate here will go directly to The Anti-Recidivism Coalition's Firefighter Fund.

For anyone interested in me: I am an actor and long-time LA resident, and several of my good friends have lost their home in the fires. I have followed the story of the incarcerated firefighters for years, and my hope is that through whatever notoriety i might have, I can bring attention (and funds) to their moving efforts.

This weekend, as I celebrate another year of life, Shirin and I inspired to mark the occasion by giving back to those who are selflessly risking their own lives to protect ours. Incarcerated individuals are bravely battling the devastating LA fires, and we want to honor their extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

It's deeply troubling that these brave individuals, who face unimaginable danger on the front lines, earn a mere $1 per hour for their heroic work. They are putting everything on the line to keep our communities safe, yet receive virtually no financial compensation for their efforts.

That's why we're asking you to join us in supporting the Los Angeles Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC). ARC is dedicated to providing vital resources for these incarcerated firefighters and their families, both during and after their incarceration. Your donation will help ARC provide:

Financial Assistance: Covering basic needs like food, housing, and healthcare.

Re-entry Programs: Assisting with job training, education, and other services to ensure a successful transition back into society.

Mental Health Support: Addressing the trauma and stress associated with firefighting.

I am raising money for the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, a Los Angeles-based charity whose goal is to end mass incarceration in California. You may have heard about the amazing work they're doing to support incarcerated firefighters who are on the front lines battling the wildfires in LA. These men & women, some of who are as young as 18, get paid less than $30 for 24 hrs of work simply because they incarcerated. Not to mention, because they are funded by the Department of Corrections, they receive a fraction of the logistical support that regular fire departments do with very little labor protections. Needless to say, the ARC has stepped up in a major way to get these firefighters desparately needed supplies and provide additional resources to ensure that they are safe as possible during this challenging time. They are just as heroic as any other firefighter and deserve to work on an equal playing field.

I chose the ARC for Stares for Cares because it hits close to home as someone who was born and raised in Southern California. Wildfires were always a fact of life growing up, and they have intensified as climate change has gotten worse. But I have never, in recent or past memory, seen anything as devastating as the wildfires we're seeing right now. LA is hurting, and I am hurting for them.

While the ARC has pulled in a lot of money lately, donations are still extremely impactful for them. I hope you'll consider donating to them during Stares for Cares - no amount is too small.
