Hello! My name is Rebekah DeMatteo and I am the Vice President of Army’s Legacy Animal Rescue and Sanctuary. For the last 4 years our organization has dedicated our time to saving animals and raising awareness about neglect and abuse. We are devoted to helping and partnering with CT based municipalities and are trying our very hardest to make a change right here in Connecticut. Not only do we operate as a foster based rescue but we provide assistance for many medical cases and help as many families as we can to keep their pets in their homes where they are happy and loved. We recently acquired a facility in Westbrook, CT that was previously owned and operated by a prior, now dissolved, animal rescue. We knew that taking this on would be a project in one way or another but we never could have imagined the lengths in which we would need to go to not only bring the property up to code but make this a safe and comfortable space for animals and volunteers alike. With this facility came some donated funds from the prior rescue that have since been depleted due to the mass amount of repairs needed to bring the property up to state code. With all of this being said, there are many more repairs and additional things we want to and need to do before we are officially up and running, while still having funding in our accounts to care for our current animals and future animals alike. We have multiple long term medical dogs in our care and a rely heavily on donations to keep our mission running. We are asking for help, from our amazing supporters, to get us over the finish line… we can see it, it is so very close, but we can’t help but feel like it is still so out of reach. This is our DREAM, please help us make this our reality.
