ARTSPACE at Untitled Program Funding
Dear neighbors, allies, friends, and family,
2020 has been challenging for us all. As soon as we thought it could not get worse in Oklahoma, we got hit by an ice storm, and some lost their power for up to three weeks. Although we keep facing hurdles, we continue to overcome them. Each of us has their reason for powering through, and for ARTSPACE, it is our mission.
ARTSPACE at Untitled is where living artists can work, teach, reside, and display their art in an environment that stimulates curiosity, nurtures dialogue, and inspires everyone to participate. With your donation, you are ensuring students and the public the opportunity to explore creative solutions and bring awareness and respect within our communities. We invite you to join this dialog. ARTSPACE is YOUR SPACE.
Our primary means of raising funds is through our Steamroller Festival and Postcard Perspectives exhibition. Without these events, we have no underwriting income to maintain our programming. This year to help keep our community safe, we had to cancel the festival and alter our Postcard Perspective Gala event to 3 separate days of appointments with a small limited group of attendees at each. Last year we had thousands attend these two events. The decision was easy since the safety of our friends and family comes first. However, financially this has been a significant setback. The funds we raise keep our doors open and fund our diverse range of free programming we offer to the public.
We have kept our Mentorship Program going through these difficult times since our students attend in small groups, and we have plenty of space to host them safely. ARTSPACE's Mentorship Program started in 2011 with 12 students. We have expanded the program to over 130 students a year, impacting hundreds of lives since its inception. The Mentorship Program helps empower our students to experiment with various art disciplines through collaboration with artists, mentors, and educators. Returning students are offered independent studies to investigate new mediums they are interested in pursuing. We also provide partnerships with artistic institutions to expose our students to professional practices and visit local galleries and museums yearly. Our students are welcome to work in our creative incubator outside of class, and the entire experience is at no cost to them or the participating schools. Since the Mentorship Program is free, ARTSPACE can only continue with private and public support.
The rest of our programming is canceled until we feel confident that we can safely provide it to the community. This includes our workshops and classes, another means of fundraising we are no longer receiving. We know that many of you face your own set of difficulties, and many are in the same boat. However, if you are looking to get involved or donate to an organization this holiday season, we hope that you will consider us. As they say, it takes a village. Thank you to all who read this and continue to support education in the arts, young creatives, community centers, open dialog, and creativity.
