Asbury Grove Building Restoration Fund
Asbury Grove is a small religious community located in Hamilton, Massachusetts. It was created in 1859 by the Methodist Church for churches north of Boston to hold Campmeetings each summer. Summer campmeetings and weekly programs have been held at Asbury Grove continuously ever since. It is multi denominational. The buildings of Asbury Grove consist of the E. Stanley Jones Chapel, L.B. Bates Library, a Tabernacle, Dining Hall, Coffee Shop (formerly the community bakery), Vesper Circle (under the pines), Craft Shop (formerly the Tax Office) and 3 dormitories originally built by individual churches for their parishioners; Jesse Lee House, Wesley House & Johnson House.
On March 5, 2015, a fourth dormitory, the Swedish Tabernacle aka Fletcher House (built by the Swedish Methodist Churches north of Boston) was destroyed due to excessive snow load. Through local fundraising events, this building was slowly being renovated to be a year round building, in hopes of extending some events into the winter. Many hearts were broken that day as this building was used for Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for generations of children as well as for social events.
With hopes of rebuilding the Swedish Tabernacle this GoFundMe has been started. If we are unable to reach our goal of rebuilding, any funds raised will be used to make repairs to the remaining dormitories. Check donations may also be made out to “Asbury Campmeeting Corporation” with memo "Swedish Tabernacle" and mailed to Asbury Campmeeting Corporation, c/o Lorrie Kulhavy, 246 Highland St, So. Hamilton, MA 01982.
Any donation you can give would be greatly appreciated to restore & preserve this functioning historic landmark.
