Help Us Rebuild the Institution Mixte de Regnier
On Saturday morning, August 14th, a 7.2 earthquake shook the southwestern region of Haiti. Unfortunately, the Institution Mixte de Regnier, the K-13 school, was severely impacted. The once three-story main building has been reduced to rubble and the only standing buildings, the cafeteria and the pre-school, have sustained damages.
Through the Institution Mixte de Regnier, the Association for the Children of Regnier, Haiti (ACR) has been able to provide access to education and resources for the children in the rural area outside of Les Cayes for over 26 years. More than a school, the Institution Mixte de Regnier was a multipurpose facility; it served as a center for weddings, funerals, and even a shelter in the wake of the past several hurricanes.
While we have no intention to end our services to the community, we would be remiss to not acknowledge the roadblock this catastrophe has caused. Before construction can even begin, the existing rubble must be cleared and the structural components will need to be re-evaluated. The financial burden is especially significant, as previous fundraiser initiatives were for general school operations including school tuition and staff salaries.
Please consider donating to our cause so we may rebuild the Institution Mixte de Regnier, both as a school and a critical cultural center, even stronger than it was before. Additionally, please keep our school, affected students, staff, and their families, and the entire country in your thoughts and prayers!
