Hi, I am Dorothy Paredes, the founder and president of The Atrium Foundation, a nonprofit that is on a mission to beat cancer financial toxicity and the consequences cancer patients and their families face because of it.
We are partnering with The Wine Lounge at Jacksonville Inn in Jacksonville, Oregon during the month of October to raise funds that will go directly to paying past due housing, utility, or medical bills to keep cancer patients out of extreme debilitating debt.
Cancer is one of the most expensive medical conditions to treat in the United States. Because of a cancer diagnosis, many patients & survivors are struggling to afford housing, food, & bills. This toxicity compromises patients' ability to heal & focus on themselves at a most critical time in their life.
A 2022 survey by the Cancer Action Network of the American Cancer Society stated cancer patients noted having to do the following to sustain their livelihood during treatment:
- 36% cut back on food, clothing, and basic household expenses
- 28% used up all or most of their savings
- 28% increased credit card debt
- 20% borrowed money from friends or family
- 7% took out another type of loan
- 4% borrowed from a payday lender or refinanced a home
These are statistics we refuse to accept because we know no one fighting for their life should also have to fight to buy groceries, stay in their homes, or keep the lights on.
Help us raise $5,000 in October!
Donate today to our GoFundMe Campaign or stop into The Wine Lounge for a wine flight where 25% of the proceeds will be donated to The Atrium Foundation.
I sincerely appreciate your support. As a 3x cancer survivor, I know firsthand what it is to go broke because of a cancer diagnosis.
Dorothy
