Back Bay Therapeutic Riding Club, Inc.

Hi, I'm Elory Singer.  I am about to have my Bat Mitzvah.  As part of my Bat Mitzvah, I am doing my Mitzvah Project, or in Hebrew, "good deed".  For my Mitzvah Project, I have been volunteering at the Back Bay Therapeutic Riding Club (BBTRC) for over a year.  At the BBRTC  we work with children and adults with special needs and disabilities doing horseback riding therapy.  The therapy helps the riders in a variety of ways - physically, mentally and emotionally.  For a child in a wheelchair, the movement of the horse helps stabilize their core.  For an autistic rider, the therapy can help with sensory input, language skills and coordination.  I assist the trained therapist in the riding session doing different horse related therapies with the kids.  I truly enjoy it and love working with both the kids and the horses and it is so much fun watching all of the kids' progress.  

In addition to volunteering, I am raising money to help the Back Bay Therapeutic Riding Club Inc. buy a therapeutic surcingle.   This is where I can use your help!

A surcingle is a piece of riding equipment that goes around a horse's girth with two handles for riders to grip.  It is used in place of a saddle.  The rider sits on a saddle pad and holds the handles.  As of right now, the BBTRC only has vaulting surcingles for their bigger horses.  These surcingles are painful for the horses and limit the possibilities for adult riders.  Therapeutic surcingles are adjustable, allowing them to fit on horses and ponies of all sizes.  They also allow adult riders to have more movement.  A therapeutic surcingle is a very important piece of equipment in horse therapy - but it is costly.  I am hoping to raise at least $2,000 to buy one surcingle for the riding center.  

Any donation will help make an impact, and all extra funds will still go to the BBTRC.  Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me!  I truly appreciate it and am excited about helping the BBTRC be able to provide even better therapy to the many kids who ride there.  It will be a very meaningful Bat Mitzvah project.
