Baja Bound Ministries

As most of you may know, I have been heavily involved with Baja Bound for the past 5 years and resided full time in Ensenada for 2 of those years. I moved back to the US about a year ago to start my career, but I feel like the time has come to host a build of my own along with my girlfriend Jenny who is also very passionate about serving others. 

This 02/29-03/02 we will be building a 16'x20' insulated and drywalled home on a concrete foundation, with electrical wiring: two bedrooms, a living room, and a loft. In addition to this, we will hook up electricity, paint the inside, provide interior trim for the windows and doors, and help the family with whatever else they might need, such as furniture, a bathroom, or Baja Educational Initiative scholarships.

The icing on the cake is that we will be staying at a beautiful beach house in a safe gated community, and go out for tacos! For more details on the history and nature of our work please check out www.bajabound.org  

In order to accomplish all of this, we have set our total fundraising target at $14,000. To reach this fundraising goal, we ask for a contribution of $333 if you plan to join us on the build. This goes towards:

- Your food and lodging while in Mexico.

- The material cost of the home.

- Experienced staff from Baja Bound that will guide the construction, logistics, and translation.

- Service programs and outreach in the community (feeding program, local orphanage, migrant camp)..

If you are unable to join us on the build, we still greatly appreciate your support in helping us reach this goal. Every donation is valuable. Anything raised that we don't need for the build will be donated to Baja Educational Initiative. Education is critical to breaking cycles of poverty. Chatmeter is teaming up with Baja Bound for the third time to build a home for a family in need.

Building homes with the non-profit organization, Baja Bound, has become one of our favorite philanthropic projects to date. This is why Chatmeter will be heading back to Maneadero, Mexico to build another home and give back to the local community on November 22, 2019. 

This year we’d like to extend our fundraising efforts to Chatmeter customers, partners, and fans like you. 


Our goal is to raise enough money to build one house, if we exceed that goal, we’ll build another. A complete house costs $13,995 and no donation is too small to help get this family into their new home.

Baja Bound NY is a group of New York City high-school students who are committed to helping the working poor create permanent homes for their families. Every summer, our group travels to Mexico with Baja Bound Ministries to build homes for migrant workers who live with only tarp, cardboard, or wood planks over their heads.

Our year-long work involves recruiting volunteers, raising funds for construction materials and scholarships, and planning the one-week home-building trip in early summer.

Many expenses go into building homes for the families in need. Beyond construction materials, there are also extras that we provide to the families such as basic appliances, mattresses, and scholarships for their children. We raise funds year-round through a social event, bake sales, and personal solicitations.

Baja Bound student volunteers pay for their own travel expenses, room and board, and their families also make a contribution to the construction costs. This ensures all donations will go into helping the families in need.

Our fund-raising goal, which we hope to meet by May 2019, is $22,220 which breaks down as follow:

Hi, Friends! Meet the Rojas Joaquín family of 7! We are working together to help them build their first home the first weekend of April!

Rojas Joaquin & Leticia Joaquín Ortiz, their two children, José Luis (4 years old) and Alisson Guadalupe (one month old) along with Mrs. Cira Ortiz, Mr. Menecio Joaquin and José Joaquin will soon have a home with a roof, floors, and protection from the cold!

Luis and Leticia work long and hard in the agricultural field as laborers making $200 pesos for 8 hours a day. They had previously rented the land paying $1,500 pesos per month for a small, drafty, 8 square meter room with a plastic roof, old wooden walls, and a dirt floor without much protection from inclement weather conditions (especially during the rainy season). They cook using a small stove or with firewood outside.

I've set up a team to travel to Ensenada, Mexico between April 5th & 7th to build a house with Baja Bound Ministries to make their dreams come true and provide a house for this hard working family! I'm hoping to raise $10,000 to cover the costs of the building.

My Wife and I helped on our first build this past December. It was truly eye opening! We cannot wait to get back down to Mexico to help build another one. Please join us on this life changing trip! Bound began in 1993 when a group of friends in San Diego had a vision to change lives on both sides of the border.  Over the years Baja Bound has worked in the Tijuana, Tecate, and Ensenada areas. 

In 2004 we became aware of the dramatic needs of the immigrant communities traveling north to work in the agricultural fields of Baja.  We stumbled across a magnificent plan to build an incredible home quickly and affordably; the rest is history.  We now center the majority of our activities in the Ensenadaarea.
