Meet Gordon, a happy and playful puppy who has captured the hearts of everyone at our shelter. Unfortunately, he faces a serious health challenge. It is highly suspected that he has a liver shunt, a condition that, if untreated could cut his life short.

As a shelter, we are committed to helping all animals in our care, but our funds are limited, and we need your help to give Gordon the chance he deserves.

To determine the necessary treatment, we need to perform a specialized CT scan called a Dual Phase Angiogram that will allow a look at his blood vessels at a veterinary specialist. This diagnostic procedure will help us understand whether Gordon requires surgery for an internal or external shunt. The cost for the diagnostics alone is approximately $2,500 and the surgery could be upwards of $10,000.

Late in the evening on January 12th some concerned citizens saved 9 Patterdale Terrier dogs from a terrible and potentially life threatening situation.

Recently, the community became aware of a large number of dogs being kept in deplorable conditions within Bartholomew County. Specifically, dogs were kept on the end of chains with little to no space to move, while standing in their own feces and mud, isolated and cold. One dog in particular was in exceptionally bad condition with an embedded collar in his neck that appeared to have been there for months--or even longer.

This rescue would not have been possible without the incredible support from Dog World staff and BCHS volunteers-- we are so grateful to everyone involved and especially the volunteer who orchestrated the rescue.

Having said that, this type of a rescue places a HUGE burden on our shelter financially. We are also in DESPERATE search for fosters to open up kennels for the remaining dogs that have been rescued tonight. If anyone is interested in helping in any way please reach out.
