Peace at Home's fundraiser for 'Barry's Room'!
Barry Forte’, a retired DHS Child Welfare caseworker and long-time supporter of Peace at Home, touched the lives of many families and individuals throughout Douglas County. Barry would go out of his way to help a youth, especially those who really didn’t have anyone. His wit and charm as well as his big smile filled the courtroom when he was there to finalize a child or youth’s adoption, or when he would train a room full of anxious relatives and curious foster parents.
So, when Peace at Home Advocacy Center recently learned it would be the proud owners of a hotel that would provide support and shelter for families and children who are working to leave an unsafe situation, we knew whose ‘heart’ would fill the children’s room with needed laughter and joy: the memory of Barry Forte’! This room will focus around a bear mural, with books, toys, comfy chairs and tables for parents and children to explore and learn. But we need your help…
The VISION behind the Children's Room:
Advocates from Peace at Home work each day to educate our community on the ways that interpersonal violence impacts us all. We provide options, resources, and information about how to increase safety and build a life free of violence. Though our new shelter is filling up with families seeking safety, the children’s room is empty right now, as children wait to come and explore. We will need to install new flooring, while purchasing furniture, light fixtures, toys and project supplies, in addition to supplying paint for a mural. Our vision is to create a safe and nurturing space for children and their parents. Your donation will help make this dream a reality!
