Bergen County NJ Masjid
The Bergen County Islamic Educational Center (BCEIC) -- our community’s Masjid -- is in desperate need of a new home. The parking lot directly adjacent to the Center, and used daily by the Center’s community members, is being converted into a 268-apartment residential building complex. This parking lot is owned by the City of Hackensack, and as such, the BCEIC board and it's members have no say in the matter.
In addition, the construction of the project will take at least two years to complete, and will create many impediments, like noise, access to/from the building, safety, etc.
BCEIC's board and executive committee, in consultation with its community leaders, decided that a physical relocation was the best solution. After a lengthy and thorough search, BCEIC was able to identify and secure a newer, larger, and expandable building with plenty of parking only five minutes away from the current location — Alhamdullah.
The purchase price of the building alone was $3 Million -- this does not include the renovation costs required to convert the building into a Masjid. BCEIC was thankfully able to fund half the amount through its reserves and investments. The other half was paid by securing a loan from an Islamic Finance bank.
As an Islamic institution, BCEIC is looking to pay off its debt as quickly as possible and remain debt free. The BCEIC board and committee are doing everything they can to raise enough money to repay the $1.5 Million. They are reaching out to neighboring communities and towns, and we are asking for your help and support as well. Any small amount you are able to donate will go a long way in helping the Bergen County to re-achieve its goal of having a debt-free Masjid. May Allah bless and multiply your reward for each and every dollar your donate.
Below are just a few of the many attractive amenities of the new Center include:
- Ease of access — the building has entrances on both sides of the building, and the prayer halls are all at street level. This is a significant advantage for many of our elderly and disabled members, as the current masjid has multiple flights of stairs to reach its prayer halls.
- Recreation hall for Muslim youth -- this is something the community has been trying to develop for quite awhile. The current masjid has no indoor or outdoor area for the youth to congregate and interface with one another.
- Parking -- the new building will have 80 parking spots for its members. This will achieve significant cost savings, as the BCEIC community currently pays the City of Hackensack a substantial amount in monthly rent for less than half the number of parking spots.
