Tallahassee - we cannot have women & children sleeping under overpasses or in tents behind motels or in their cars! Covid has disproportionately hurt women who were laid off from jobs like cleaning hotel rooms and working in kitchens and restaurants. 

Big Bend Homeless Coalition is dedicated to NO UNSHELTERED FAMILIES and we should all be super proud of them for that -- but they need funding for hotel nights for women & children through June 30, when their funding source for hotels will restart.  This goal is based 1 night hotel for 30 days at $70/night + $25/day for food for the family. This will help them put women and children into hotels for a day or two while they start case management and help them with next steps. The women and children will be safe, which is the most important thing - and connected to services.

The Oasis Center for Women & Girls recently helped two women get into hotels. One of the women "Susan" told me, "I have been telling my daughter (7 years old) that we're on adventure so she won't realize how bad things are."  I asked the second woman what her two boys (ages 4 and 7) needed and she replied "for their mother to have a job".  

BBHC will help these women through safe housing at Hope Community and will connect them to other wonderful agencies who support them with childcare and finding jobs.  But they need to have the ability to put women and children into hotels to keep them safe long enough to get the intake process going.

Your contribution will be restricted to an account for hotels for women and children.  Please give as generously as you can -- the women who we have in the hotel right now it's $95/day to pay the hotel and provide food --- THANK YOU!!!!

I cannot begin to imagine the pain of putting my children "to bed" in a tent behind a motel and then staying vigilant to keep them safe. Think about that....heart breaking.
