One of my best friends, Connor Scott, recently left to start his journey at the Naval Academy. Once we said goodbye, I realized that so many people have to watch a loved one, like Connor, leave. While he’s gone, he’ll commit the next four years of his life to one of the most mentally and physically challenging places to study in order to pursue his dream of becoming a Navy Seal.
In an effort to show him how proud the community is and support others in the same spot, I will do a “Murph” every day starting Monday, July 8th through Thursday, August 8th at Crossfit Barrington. One of the things we enjoyed doing together was training. Whether it be going for runs or lifting with each other, we pushed each other to be better versions of ourselves. The “Murph” workout consists of a mile run, followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 air-squats, then another mile run. This workout originated in honor of Navy Seal, Michael Murphy, who died in combat in 2005.
I would like to get a different person to complete a “Murph” with me each day and interview them during/after the workout to share their story and learn more about the interviewee in general. I’ve created an instagram and facebook account, murpheveryday17. This way I can share each interview, find new people interested in participating, and donate to the veterans. If you’re interested in doing a “Murph” with me, there are plenty of ways to modify the workout to each individual, so please don’t be scared away by the volume of the workout. If you can’t participate, any donations are appreciated too.
All proceeds will be donated to the Bigfish Foundation based in Colorado. This organization works with veterans to help them connect with similar people, grow as individuals and a community, and serve for others. Here’s a link for more information, https://www.bigfishfoundation.org.
