SMILA 2023 Summer Reading Camp Scholarship Fund
Illiteracy is one of our city's biggest, most persistent problems. Seventy-six percent of our third graders in public schools are not reading on grade level. Most of them will not catch up!
The Binghampton Fellowship Foundation trains elementary school teachers how to teach their school students to read. Elementary school teachers are on the frontlines helping students learn to read so that they can read to learn. Relative to the need, we are a very small program, but every year, we train a few very dedicated teachers to help our children succeed in school.
We could use your help!
The tuition for each teacher is $2000. The tuition for students is $500. We have given many scholarships this year to our participants. We are working to raise $5000 to cover the cost of those scholarships.
Will you help us support our teachers and students? All donation will help make an impact!
Our summer session began on June 5. We finish on June 23. Our teachers are learning effective, science-based language arts teaching techniques and are given the opportunity daily to practice those new skills. We also provide a summer reading camp for elementary students to help them improve their reading, writing and oral language skills.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.
