Friends and family are encouraged to make donations in memory of Judah Richardson. All proceeds will go towards funding a scholarship in Judah's name. Judah was a SCHOLAR recipient, and we hope to keep his memory alive by supporting future award winners. The goal has been set at $5,000, but we hope to raise more in his memory.

SCHOLAR (School Community Helping Outstanding Learners Achieve Recognition) is a fund designed to ease the financial burden of college by granting scholarships to deserving high school graduates living in the Birmingham School District, including private and parochial schools.

SCHOLAR's mission is to ease the financial burden of college by granting scholarships to deserving high school graduates living in the BPS District.  The fund is supported by individual donor contributions and endowed funds that support specific awards. Help secure the legacy of higher education for students in the Birmingham District, and give to SCHOLAR today.

SCHOLAR Birmingham has roots back to 1922 when a group of community leaders established the Birmingham Student Loan & Scholarship Fund Association. We only make grants today (no loans), and our mission remains the same: to ease the financial burden of graduating seniors who live in the Birmingham School District. Seniors planning on attending college or a registered trade school can apply online; information is available through their high school counselors. Evaluation criteria include financial need, academic performance, school and community involvement, employment history, and any special considerations highlighted by applicants.

SCHOLAR has granted over $1,000,000 in awards over the last 17 years, and we rely on donations from individuals and groups to sustain our mission.

As part of our reunion celebration, we have chosen to support SCHOLAR Birmingham. Scholar provides grants to graduating seniors to help with college or trade school tuition. This is also Scholar's 100th anniversary so it's a very special year.

Our donations will go to a Groves senior graduating in 2023. If we reach our goal we will also fund at least one more grant the following year. This is a great way to leave a legacy from our class to the current Falcons.
