COVID-19 Testing for Bolinas & W Marin Essentials
FOUR DAYS OF TESTING WERE COMPLETED ON APRIL 23RD, 2020—1,844 BOLINAS RESIDENTS AND W. MARIN FIRST RESPONDERS WERE TESTED FOR ACTIVE VIRUS AND ANTIBODIES—A WARM THANK YOU TO ALL OUR DONORS, VOLUNTEERS AND PARTICIPANTS!
A group of volunteers has procured COVID-19 testing for West Marin County essential workers and the entire population of Bolinas through a partnership with UCSF School of Medicine, to stem the spread of infections in our community.
Bolinastesting.org Website
The tests will be provided free of charge and will prioritize healthcare workers, anyone with symptoms, and seniors. Testing is scheduled for April 20–23.
As we all know COVID-19 is being transmitted to those at risk by the healthy and asymptomatic in our community. This is why testing everyone, particularly residents who have no symptoms, is so important for curbing the spread of the disease.
Background
The Italian town of Vo, pop. 3,300, was the first to test its entire community for COVID-19.
89 people tested positive and were quarantined. The team traced their recent contacts and quarantined them too, whether or not they had symptoms. In a second round of testing 6 people tested positive and 14 days later they had eradicated coronavirus in Vo.
Our goal is to create a playbook for communities around the Bay Area and the world to launch their own testing initiatives to fight the virus.
The Plan
Medical staff and volunteers will set up a drive-through testing site at the Bolinas fire station for the tests. All staff will be wearing appropriate protective equipment.
Samples will be sent to UCSF for testing. All results are confidential and delivered to each individual.
See the testing website for more info about the two types of tests we will be using, and answers to frequently asked questions.
Before we have a vaccine, social distancing and community-wide testing done together is the most effective strategy for keeping our vulnerable loved ones and neighbors safe. We're all in this together!
Thank you for your support.
