Boston Marathon Fundraiser for the Bronx Burners
As a kid, my family had a tradition: every Marathon Monday, we’d go to the Red Sox game at Fenway Park. The stadium sits right at mile 25 of the course, and after the game, we’d spill out onto the streets to cheer on the runners in the final stretch.
From the time I was 8 until I left for college, we never missed a year. Watching those runners push through exhaustion, giving everything they had to reach the finish line—it stuck with me. I knew, one day, I had to run it myself.
Then, in 2013, during my senior year of high school, that tradition took a tragic turn. I was at the game with my cousin Dana and my family when the Boston Marathon bombings happened. The city went into lockdown.
The race I had idolized my entire life was suddenly marked by tragedy, but my admiration for the runners and the spirit of Boston only grew stronger. From that moment on, I knew I would run the race one day—not just to cross the finish line, but to honor the resilience of the running community and the city that raised me.
The road to Boston hasn’t been easy. In 2023, I had back surgery on my L5-S1 disc. For months, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever run the same way again. The simple act of lacing up my shoes and hitting the pavement—something I had done for years—was suddenly in question.
Recovery was slow, frustrating, and filled with setbacks. But just like the runners I watched as a kid, I refused to quit. Step by step, I rebuilt my strength, determined to one day stand on the starting line in Hopkinton.
This year, that dream becomes reality. And just like the runners who inspired me as a kid, I want my race to be about more than just myself.
I’m running for a cause—fundraising for a charity that helps create brighter futures for children in the Bronx. These kids are full of potential, but many face barriers far beyond their control. The support they receive can change the course of their lives, just like the Boston Marathon changed mine.
Boston taught me what’s possible when people come together—when a city rallies behind its runners, when a community lifts each other up, and when we push forward no matter the obstacles. That’s the spirit I try to live every day. And thats the energy you will get out of me on race day!
The Bronx Burners Run Club is a 501c3 nonprofit that supports local Bronx youth athletes. We’re building a stronger Bronx community through opportunities in sport. Empowering all through health & wellness, social, and academic initiatives to expand their potential.
Every dollar we raise in our Scholarship Fund goes directly to support our student athletes. To date, we have been able to provide scholarships for college education, summer running camps, and other sports-focused activities for our members.
On top of being a nonprofit, we are also a run club that meets weekly at 7PM at Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx, right outside of Yankee stadium. Our weekly practices are a time for us to gather as a community around something we all love - running! Practices are open to all ages and abilities.
