We are holding this fundraiser as a tribute to our beloved Brownie, who recently passed away. His loss to our family and all those who love him has been heartbreaking. We wanted to take our sadness and honor him by highlighting the “Diamonds in the Ruff” program, for which Brownie is a graduate.
We came to know Brownie at Buddy Dog Humane Society in 2017. We were unable to adopt him at the time, due to our current family pet Rosie, who was not amenable to having another dog in our home. We continued to follow and visit Brownie over the next two years. We lost our beloved Rosie in 2019 and, as we mourned the loss of her, Brownie became a potential reality for us again and we worked with the staff at Buddy Dog, who re-introduced us to Brownie.
We finally adopted Brownie and another puppy, Plysha, in August 2019. It was a tough adjustment for Brownie. He had epilepsy, poor eyesight, and severe anxiety. As a testament to Buddy Dog’s love and care for Brownie, they knew him so well that they put together a two-page guide to his medicine, seizures, and behavior. This was a lifesaver. We were able to call on them for guidance and support as Brownie transitioned to our home.
Buddy Dog rallies many people and organizations to support these special needs pups, it takes medical and behavioral care, special food, toys, medicine and so much more.
We want to recognize the many people that supported Brownie. This includes every member of the staff and volunteer team at Buddy Dog, with a special acknowledgment to Kaleb. He was the one to re-introduced us to Brownie, took him home several times to be in a home environment, and put together the two-page guide to his seizures, medicine, and behavior. Also, we would like to acknowledge Julie, who answered many emails and talked with us to help understand Brownie and his needs better. We also want to thank Lisa Rockland at All About My Dog, Dr. Valas and her team at The Family Pet Hospital, Sandy Bernier at Irie Bliss Wellness and the staff at Cummings Hospital for Small Animals at Tufts University.
We referred to Brownie as the little gentlemen, Brownie Boy, handsome, and Brown Dog. He wore his heart on his sleeve, tender, vulnerable and playful. He loved with his whole heart. He has a beautiful and pure soul. We miss him dearly. He was the light of our lives.
Buddy Dog works tirelessly to support these pups, to get the care and treatment that they need. We wanted more time with Brownie, but are grateful for the time that we had with him. His beautiful spirit will live on through all those who love him and followed his story. We were lucky enough to be chosen by Brownie. Were it not for the “Diamonds in the Ruff” program, we would not have had the honor and true pleasure of making Brownie a part of our family. With this said, it only feels right to honor Brownie’s life by raising money for Buddy Dog Humane Society and the “Diamonds in the Ruff” program. We ask you to please donate what you can (our goal is set at $1000, though we hope to exceed that amount), to support these pups on their journey to finding their forever homes.
All the love and with many thanks,
The McKeown Family
