Butler Montessori - Save Our School
Butler Montessori School has been teaching preschoolers and kindergartners in our community (using the Montessori Method) since 1974. They have taught generations of children who, along with their parents, will attest to how much they learned and experienced in their time here.
Last March, as the reality of the pandemic set in, they had to close their doors, cancel fundraising, and face the question of what to do in the fall. Teachers, volunteers, and parents have worked tirelessly on a plan that would enable them to open their doors in the fall. They have successfully done so, and despite the challenges of this pandemic, they are teaching kids, in person, on a daily basis - with caveats. They were unable to hire an aide this year, and enrollment is down to 12 kids, from 18 the year before. Many families - especially those with multiple children - are opting for home-based education this year.
At this level, tuition falls well short of covering all of the costs needed to make it through the year. The shortfall is so great that we are only funded through December - even with the cuts. Despite this, the teachers, and all involved, have taken a leap of faith and begun the school year.
For the first time in 46 years, the future of this school is in jeopardy. If it does not receive enough in contributions to cover its costs this year, the parents and teachers will be forced to move on to other options that make it unlikely to reopen in the future. This would be a big loss for our community and generations of children to come.
We are unable to carry out many of our usual fundraising activities, and enrollment is down during this pandemic. We are at a critical juncture, and we need your contributions to make it through this year.
After this year, as the situation with the pandemic improves, we hope (and reasonably expect) to see improvement in enrollment as well as a return to more regular fundraising. But the school needs to survive this year first.
Please help us, and be a part of the continuing story of Butler Montessori.
All giving matters. But this is a chance to be part of something that is local, for a need that is immediate, to a school that will be impactful for years to come. It is a chance to bridge a critical gap, so that the school can continue teaching kids, using the Montessori method, for many years to come.
If you are a business, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to a school that has been teaching our community's children for 46 years.
If you are an alumnus of this school or know someone who is, please share your story in the comments below. Time is critical, and we are asking everyone to help spread the word on this fundraiser.
