Save the Camas-Washougal Co-op Preschool!
Eighty years ago, Mrs. Jerry Clary was inspired to start a cooperative preschool for young children, the first of its kind in the Camas-Washougal area. Decades later, the Camas-Washougal Parent Co-op Preschool has become a mainstay of this community, providing a thriving and safe environment in which generations of students have been encouraged to grow, play, and learn. In fact, ask almost anyone in the Camas and Washougal area and they’ll likely have some connection to the school. That’s because our school is more than just an educational institution. We are a community. We are family.
In a time when children are suffering in ways we likely won’t see the full effect of for many years, safely opening our doors has made a monumental difference. We have students who were struggling to communicate now speaking in full sentences. We have children with social anxiety now fully engaging with their peers.
Unfortunately, just like many other businesses, the current pandemic has taken a toll on our school. After years of working together to support our families and communities, the Camas-Washougal Co-op now needs YOUR help! Please consider partnering with us to keep the doors of this little piece of our town's history open.
As a small, non-profit organization, we run on a limited budget with little margin for loss. Due to COVID-19, we currently have the lowest enrollment in our recent history. That means we are struggling to cover overhead costs and keep our 5-member teaching team employed. In an attempt to give our school time to level out and return to full enrollment, we have adjusted expenses as much as possible and depleted our emergency savings account that was built over the last 10 years. We are now at a heartbreaking tipping point, and the reality is that if we cannot raise enough to pay our staff and our bills, our doors will close for good on February 19th, 2021. So, we humbly ask for your help.
We are aiming to raise $35,000 so that we can finish our school year and enroll students for the next school year with a new, updated version of our budget. GoFundMe proceeds will be used to ensure we can pay our staff and our bills and keep this vital community resource alive.
Thank you! Your generosity and support mean the world to us. You have no idea what your gift means to our small but mighty community and to the thousands of children that will walk through our doors for many more decades to come.
