Camp Wilmot 5k Campership Fund
Camp Wilmot has had a big place in my heart since I first went for a visit in 2002. Since then I have returned every summer and taken on many different roles. In that time I have seen hundreds of people transformed and becoming part of the Camp Wilmot family. Each year almost half of our summer campers come on fully paid camperships in a scheme started by the late Bill Burrris. All of these kids have been highlighted by the social worker as needing a week away from their difficult and often traumatic situations. Camp has been able to provide this break for them and support them. It has been life changing for many. I am so deeply grateful for all that camp Wilmot has done for me and so many others. I want to see this scheme continue and see many more kids join us each summer. Many years ago a wee boy said to me that he looks forward to camp all year because it is the one week in the year he doesn’t get bullied. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be able to make that happen for so many young people.
That is why I am the volunteer administrator and I volunteer my time every summer to go to camp. Now I will be swimming 5k in a week to raise additional funds for the campership programme.
