On September 1st, category 5 storm Hurricane Dorian made direct landfall in the Northwestern Bahamas, completely devastating the Abacos and Freeport. An estimated 70,000 Bahamians are now homeless, and the recovery effort will take years. Many of us have been left wondering what we can do to help. In response, a group of friends in Raleigh who love the Abacos have put together a benefit concert to support relief efforts.
Hope Jam is here to jumpstart that effort! Join us on October 24th for some good music and good drinks, all for a great cause! If you can't make it, we would certainly appreciate a donation. And if you are joining us, thank you! We appreciate any level of support you can give. Every dollar will make a difference to the people affected by the storm.
We’re partnering with Caribbean Youth Network , a 501c3 nonprofit that is already on the ground in the Bahamas supporting victims of the storm. All proceeds from Hope Jam Raleigh will go to Caribbean Youth Network, helping them continue to focus on the human realities and needs coming out of the storm. They’re helping families find temporary housing, providing much-needed healthcare and trauma support in refugee camps, purchasing school uniforms for displaced children, and more.
Our Planning Committee has a special love for the Abacos, and we’re excited to support Caribbean Youth Network; not only do they have an established reach in the areas of the Bahamas that so desperately need our support, but the couple who started their Out Islands Ministry, Gabe & Jan Swing, are the parents of a friend of our Chair from college. This personal connection allows us to confidently say that they will be putting any dollars raised to good use.
