Welcome to the Save The Bunny Phantom Project!
F-4S Phantom II, BuNo 155539, was last flown on May 2, 1986 when it left its home at NAS Point Magu in southern California, and flew to its new home in the Arizona desert at Davis Monthan AFB near Tucson. It has been preserved there for the past 36 years, but will be sent to the scrap pile to be destroyed unless the museum raises $50,000 to prepare the plane for release from the "Boneyard" and transportation to Castle Air Museum in Atwater, CA.
For the purpose of this particular effort, we are asking you to help us reach a minimum of $10,000, or 20% of the required amount. More would be great, but anything helps.
Castle Air Museum is one of the largest outdoor military aviation museums in the nation and has the infrastructure in place specifically for this aircraft. Please make your donation to preserve the last of VX-4 'Evaluators' F-4 Phantoms. This unit played a crucial role in the effective operation of Navy and Marine aviation units, as it was VX-4 that tested and evaluated new aircraft, weapons systems, hardware, software including needed updates, and the development of recommended combat tactics for new systems, This is literally that last of these particular aircraft, and their place in aviation history cannot be overstated.
