Dan Gauthier is fundraising
20 by 2020
The El Paso tragedy calls once again to us about the need for mental health services as well as legislation to make us safe. At the same time that our leaders speak of the need for mental health services, federal and state funding has been consistently reduced since the 1980s.
In many Texas cities, private and faith-based counseling services are struggling with funding, and many are closing their doors. Out of the 50 states, Texas ranks 40th in funding for mental health services.
At such moments, we wonder, "What can we do?”
Any time you work with young people and help them, you work with potential violence. If you want to give them a fresh view of life, this is a way to do it.
We are inviting you to join us in giving substance to our prayers by supporting a particular resource that we call 20 by 2020 -- 20 young people by 2020.
You can help in 3 ways:
~ Contribute to this gofundme.
~ Celebrate the Autumnal Equinox at Jacob’s Well in Wimberley September 22 where we will kick off 20 by 2020.

~ We are excited to announce that CCR Houston is participating in The Walk for Mental Health Awareness – Houston, which will take place on Saturday October 12, 2019 at Stude Park. The Walk for Mental Health Awareness – Houston is a community based event that helps raise awareness and funding for greater Houston area non-profit agencies and programs that provide mental health services. The Walk also aims to create an environment for positive public dialogue. The theme of this year’s walk is “End Stigma Surrounding Mental Health.”

CCR receives ninety percent of funds raised through our team.
Let’s see what that resource is.
The Center for Creative Resources (CCR) has been serving economically stressed people for over 50 years in Houston and 26 years in Wimberley, Texas. Founded by Dr. Will Taegel and ably led by Jyl Scott-Reagan, MSW, and Judith Yost, MSW, for many years. We provide individual, couples, group and family therapy and nature-based mentoring experiences for persons in need while at the same time training graduate students and interns. Most important, we consult with schools with regard to at risk students and with counties seeking placement for parolees, as well as treatment centers for addictions and other key organizations.
How do our services relate directly to situations like El Paso?
At CCR, we have developed forms of counseling and mentoring that rely on initiation into aware adulthood through direct contact with Nature for our clients. We hypothesize that much of the violence we see in our youth stems from a lack of deep connection with the natural order. Our counseling and mentoring approaches directly and, often, indirectly point toward a human return to a spiritual relatedness to all creation. So, your contribution to our gofundme 20 by 2020 project will enable us to provide specific services for persons to bridge into compassionate character for humans and, yes, the whole environment.
More specifically, in 2020 we want to provide wilderness experiences for young men and women that provide both emotional and spiritual resources to avoid the despair so apparent in the shooters and other forms of bullying.
We believe this sense of profound and spiritual connectedness is a strong step toward a bridge that leads us out of the chaos that we encounter in the mass shootings happening so often as to numb our senses.
