I’m going to ask you for money.

Well, Rusty is going to ask you for money.

This idea arose one day when Rusty was meeting a 1-year-old neighbor. A 75-pound dog as tall as you can be intimidating that first time. And typical Rusty, he was careful, easy and gentle. He nosed the little boy slightly then turned to the side to offer his back for patting. He never pushed, never rushed.

It’s always been this way with Rusty. He and children were just meant for one another. Some of the first words in the vocabulary of the little girl across the street were “Rusty’s house.” He smiles at unknown kids. It is just his way.

He’s been an Austinite all his life. I have been for half my life. And that is now changing. I wanted to leave one last gift for a city that has given me many.

Plus, there is one particular place I’ve spent a lot of my time. I was there before it officially opened. And hundreds of times since. So, I need to say goodbye to that spot.

But it simply can’t be about me. Just not my way.

So as I say goodbye, and through August leading up to that farewell, I’m instituting the Rusty Fund. All the donations will go to the Central Texas Food Bank. To feed children. It’s amazing what the food bank can turn a dollar into, and I believe Rusty would agree no child should have to be hungry.

Please donate to the Rusty Fund. When I physically gather my friends to say goodbye at the end of the month, we’d like it to be a fundraiser for the Rusty Fund.

Let’s not say farewell. Let’s say live your best life to as many children as possible.

Times have been tough the last few months and this pandemic has affected more than others lately. Join me May 16th as I walked for 24 hours straight around the Lady Bird Lake trail to raise money for the Central Texas Food Bank. Bonjour! ¡Hola!  I’m Ella.  I'm 10 years old and for the past 3 years, I have raised money for the Central Texas Food Bank.  This year, with COVID 19 pandemic, the need is greater than ever.  Many people are facing hunger for the first time and they need our help.   Did you know that just $1 provides 4 meals?

The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is a leader in the fight against hunger for nearly 38 years.  Their mission is to nourish hungry people and lead the community in the fight against hunger.

If you haven't heard of the Front Steps project it was started by a photographer in Massachusetts named Cara Soulia. Starting today, I am taking her vision and expanding the project in Austin, TX.

I am taking five minute "Front Steps Portraits" of Austin residents. After your quick session, I will email you the digital file of your portrait. In exchange, I am asking you to make a good faith donation to The Central Texas Food Bank. 

The purpose of this project is to bring us together when we might feel isolated. Participating in this project is also an opportunity to step up to help those who need it most right now in Austin.

I will be taking images outside ONLY and from at least 10 feet away. Our session will be brief, likely just 5 minutes. This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session. Want to stand outside in your pajamas and slippers? Sounds good to me. Kids in mismatched clothes but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic. Portrait of you and your puppy?  Wearing your bike gear because you’re headed off to ride a trail in the nice weather? Love it! Be you.

Two years ago you helped me raise @5k for the govt shutdown. The same for 'Breaking and Entering'.  I'm asking just a bit more this time.

In the 1930's my parents as kids had to stand in bread lines or depend on strangers just for a meal. People, we are already seeing "bread lines" of people waiting  at food-banks. 

Record numbers of people are losing their jobs without any savings to fall back on. And the stimulus won't last in their accounts.

I can use my voice to get the word out. You can help by giving whatever you can. Even though I know it also may be tough on you. Those of us still employed are blessed.

It will take a very long time for any divided and chaotic government to help.  I'd really like to blow this GFM out of the water. 

Your donation from this GFM goes right to the Cen Tex Food bank. I don't touch it so there is no chance I use it for booze.

The Central Texas Food Bank is the largest hunger relief charity in Central Texas that aims to nourish hungry people and lead the community in the fight against hunger. The Texas RHO Fraternity at the University of Texas would like to help those families that don't know where their next meal is going to come from. A donation of just $10 to the Central Texas Food Bank creates 40 meals worth of food.
