Turkestan Cemetery Restoration Project
Our Jewish cemetery (located in the city of Turkestan, country Kazakhstan) is in need of massive restoration. This cemetery is the only Jewish heritage that remains in the city. This cemetery is home to Bukharian and Ashkenaz Jews alike. There are many veterans of war, stones for veterans that never returned home, memory of the repressed, etc. And there is still one more Jew who remains in the city and will undoubtedly be buried in this cemetery.
For over 14 years, our fathers and grandparents did as best as they could to preserve this site. Even prevented complete razing and reclamation of this site by authorities due to long years of poor maintenance and border-line neglect. Unfortunately, dozens of graves have already been lost and will never be recovered or identified by future generations who would want to find their connections in the land.
Thanks to members of Jewish congregates in USA, Israel and Canada, we were able to save this cemetery and place this grave site under UNESCO protection. However, our job is not yet done. We must restore this site into a park and let our ancestors rest in dignity. To restore a cemetery is a tremendous mitzvah and may we, our children, and our generations to come all be blessed for donating to this cause and merit to always be in a position of giving. This is also considered Ma'aser.
All Jews need to contribute to our grandparents and ancestors' resting place. To know your future is to know your past. We should never forget our roots and where we came from.
ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE UNDER IRC 501(C)(3)
We encourage you all to visit our website (https://www.usa-isr-community.site/) to educate yourself and come closer to your roots.
