Who am I, why am I doing this, and why should you donate?
Hello, my name is Max Ribot, and I am currently a medical student at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership in Athens, GA, and while that's not the only thing I am, it does play a part in why I have chosen to do this fundraiser.
As I continue my medical education, I can't help but think about how as child, I was diagnosed and treated for a Wilms tumor, ultimately undergoing a nephrectomy and chemotherapy before going into remission. I can't help but think about how that has impacted me and at the time of diagnosis, my loved ones (parents). I am indebted to the dedicated clinicians, nurses, staff, and researchers who worked diligently over the years to minimize the impact of cancer on childhood cancer survivors' quality of life.
I wish to express my appreciation for these selfless individuals and pay forward this good karma to other families affected by cancer by raising money for Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, where I was treated for my cancer.
To do this, I am going to ask that people pledge a certain amount per mile BEFORE I do my first half Ironman (70.3 miles) on September 26, 2021 in Augusta, GA.
Your funds will contribute to CHOA's ability to provide a wide range of necessary care, from pediatric cancer treatments to organ transplants, fracture care and appendectomies.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause and for reading my abbreviated story.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
