I am Samantha Gatesman,

an 8th grader. When I was in kindergarten I had Systemic JIA, a rare disorder that caused inflammation and potential deformation of your joints. I stayed in a local hospital for a night where they were unable to determine the cause of my illness. Then, the local hospital transferred me to CHOP for specialty care. During my 11 day stay at CHOP, many things were special to me. They made me feel comfortable and let me have fun. I remember on Halloween, I was not allowed to go out but they had people walk around in costumes with candy that came to visit my hospital room. CHOP is a teaching hospital, so they included all the latest medical thinking. This is very important because in my case it was a team approach who studied my blood work results over several days leading to the correct diagnosis for my symptoms. In the end, CHOP found the drug for me to be symptom free and live a normal life. I want to give back to CHOP because they allowed to feel comfortable during a very scary time in my life.

This is Model Train People’s Train-A-Thon annual fundraising event! This year we’re donating to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Foundation.

My son, Naurez Rathore crossed over on 8/11/2012, after fighting cancer for over 7 years. He was 15 at the time he crossed over. In his memory, I would like to donate money to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia., Oncology Department. The doctors, nurses, and social workers were amazing and caring at this hospital. I have seen many families going through this pain, and it is a truly pain-filled journey.

Your donation will help a family member park their car or buy lunch or coffee. Most parents forget their needs when their child is going through these treatments. A 25.00 gift card comes in handy. I always felt blessed by the little gift cards and parking vouchers the social worker gave to me.

My humble request to my friends and family is to help me achieve this goal of donating $1000.00 to the families taking care of their children during cancer treatment. The charity you send will go directly to CHOP.

Charity & Fundraising for our son Tindaro Salvatore Corso. We chose to make our goal $1,231. This number reflects the time of Tindaros birth 12:31. The time our lives were changed forever. All donations will be going to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia because of the dedication, empathy, professionalism and compassion they showed us throughout this entire process. Allowing us in such a short time to experience the most intimate and cherish-able moments of parenthood and most importantly Tinos life.

A Message to Our Son

Happy 1st birthday to our beautiful son up in heaven. One year since the day we met you. One year since we fell in love , one year since you made us parents. Every day that goes by I feel you with us. I know that you are with mommy and daddy always no matter what. The strongest little boy even since before he was born. You are inspiring. Tino you inspire us as parents to be the best versions of ourselves and still create a happy healthy life whether we have you in our arms or not. We will make you proud and never give up because you never gave up. We are honored to be your parents Tindaro and we are so lucky to have had you physically here for the 2 days you were. We love you. Sometimes we wonder how we are going to make it through this but we will make it through because of the perseverance you showed. Even from a far you make it known that you are still fighting till this day. I know you want mom and dad to be happy. You don’t want us to hurt. But everyday is a struggle , A silent one. In this life that we are living we have experienced the deepest heartbreak. Something that no parent should go through. But we won’t give up. Mom and dad are going to be okay because we have been absolutely blessed with your presence. Bringing you into this world was a gift & the love we have for you is immeasurable. Things should be different we should be holding your little hands and singing you happy birthday but I know everyday you are holding ours. At times we dont realize what we have and we never think that something like this would happen to us. But this is the life we live. We live everyday for you.

Mommy and Daddy

My teammate, classmate, and friend, Joe Barcia, was diagnosed with three inter-cranial mixed germ cell tumors just before our season began last year. After a long year of chemotherapy and radiation, Joe was poised to return to play this year. However, very recently, doctors discovered a recurrent tumor that needs to be excised, which unfortunately is going to sideline him from the baseball field for a second straight season.

Joe is the hardest-working teammate I had in my 6-years of college baseball and refuses to quit. He is set to undertake a master's degree to eventually get the full college season that he has truly deserved.

I am setting up this fundraiser to raise money for his hospital. Hopefully with better knowledge in regards to brain cancer and proper treatment options, patients like Joe can stay out of hospitals and continue to pursue their dreams.

This weekend, I will be undertaking the 4x4x48 challenge (run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours) to help raise awareness for Joe's condition. Keep Joe in your prayers as he is set to undergo surgery this Friday.
