We are collecting donations through
John Carroll University for the
Cleveland Maidan Association. This organization donates 100% of donations to humanitarian aid in Ukraine to help those whose lives are being affected by Russia's brutal war on them. Aid is sent to hospitals, front-line medical services, and the families of soldiers wounded or killed in action. Private donors cover transfer and any extra costs, so all donations received are sent in the full amount.

Background information on the invasion of Ukraine:
More than half a million Ukrainian civilians have fled their home country for safety, leaving behind houses, cars, food, and most items, only taking a couple of pieces of clothing.
Russia continues to bomb and invade Ukraine, killing or severely injuring Ukrainian soldiers and civilians.
Seven children were killed, and a child was born in a bomb shelter during the bombing of Kyiv (Ukrainian Capital).
Belarus is an ally of Russia and is being used as a launch point for Russian troops into Ukraine. Kyiv's intelligence suggests Belarus is prepared to join the Russian invasion.
Air raid sirens sounded in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Thursday morning, 24 February, as Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, attacking several cities with missiles and dispatching troops to the country. People are currently hiding in basements and subway tunnels to protect themselves from missiles and other bombings.
How are we helping?
Currently, protests are happening in the United States and many other countries, in regards to ending the war and for Russia to stop invading Ukraine.
Money is being donated, and sent over to people that need it the most, during this dangerous and fearful time.
General meetings are held by the Cleveland Maidan Association 2-3 times a week to discuss further steps and ideas on how to provide the most help as possible.
Items such as clothes, food, blankets, and many necessary items have been collected by churches around Ohio, and waiting to be sent over to Ukraine to help people who had to abandon their homes for safety. Currently there are many issues with flights and sending over packages as the war stopped any planes from entering the Ukraine, so sending over money currently is the best option of helping people who are in suffrage.

Vitaly Skakun Volodymyrovych was a Ukrainian Soldier who was deployed to the Henichesk bridge when the Russian tanks entered the area. The brave engineer had volunteered to rig the bridge with mines. As the Russian forces raced towards him, the soldier realised he did not have enough time to set the fuse and get to safety. So, he blew himself up and destroyed the bridge significantly slowing down the advance of the enemy:
13 soldiers were stationed on an island called Snake Island. They were surrounded by Russian warships and and told they would be bombed if they did not surrender. After a couple seconds, they responded to the Russian warships saying, "Russian warships, go f*** yourself". After, Russian warships opened fire with shootings and bombings. State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said in a statement that the guards may be alive, after Russian media reported that they were taken as prisoners from their base on Snake Island in the Black Sea to Sevastopol, a port city that Russia controls on the Crimean Peninsula, but it is still unclear if that is true:

This has been a a fearful, stressful, shocking and horrifying couple days for me and my family, as we are proud Ukrainians, who have family that lives in Ukraine. After reading the first news headline saying, "Russia invaded Ukraine, and is firing missiles at the capital", we stood next to the tv with tears, and disbelief that this is happening. In my church, Pokrova, my family as well as almost every family that is a member of our church have donated a large sum of money in support of Ukraine and its' fallen soldiers, families, children, medical personnel and anyone in need of help during this hard time. As your classmate, I encourage you too donate how ever much you can, or think is necessary, because those couple dollars you donated, could be a child's blanket, that he/she covers with at night, when sleeping in bomb shelters, waiting for this war to stop . Thank you everyone who donates and supports Ukraine throughout this fearful and devastating time.
