Remington Memorial Statue
On the morning of February 20, 2020 the citizens of Independence Kansas and the surrounding community lost a local celebrity and all around ambassador for the City. As a result, we are developing this GoFundMe page in conjunction with the City of Independence and the Community Foundation For Independence to establish a Monument Fund and also funding for the Independence Fire/EMS Department's "Fire Prevention and Safety Education Program".
The Monument is being designed and contracted with well known sculptor Kristen Douglas-Seitz from Washington State. The
monument/statue is to be cast in bronze and set on one of the more prominent street corners in the downtown area of Independence, Kansas. The monument itself, including the base, will be a slightly larger than life sculpture of Remington atop a two foot tall base making the entire piece approximately 2 1/2 feet wide, 4 1/2 feet long and 5 feet high. There will be 15 customized bricks outlining the base of the monument reserved for the first 15 $1000 donors to the project.
The monument will feature Remington standing with a front foot resting on a replica bell from the front bumper of the "Ladder One" truck that he so often rode on in the City's Neewollah parades. It will also incorporate two flying quail coming from the grass just ahead of his left rear foot. The bell is to represent his involvement as the Fire Dog with the City of Independence and the birds will represent his recognition as being one of the greatest upland field trial dogs in history.
Remington is one of the most iconic figures to ever represent the City of Independence and surrounding community. He was a top fund raiser in the community, fire safety educator at our schools, and crowd favorite at special events and during Neewollah, the largest annual festival in the State of Kansas. He is also the winningest upland flushing dog in history with over 90 total lifetime wins. His Facebook page consists of a world wide representation of nearly 4,000 fans in 44 different countries and is read in 36 different languages. He has truly become a world wide phenomenon.
