Hello Dear Family and Friends,
This year, I'm participating in three races, the Hanover Marathon (April), Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, Full Distance Ironman (July…4km swim, 180km bike and full marathon!) and Berlin Marathon (September) to help raise funds and awareness for my mentor and friend's organization, Himalayan Quests Foundation.
Amrit Ale was my mentor and guide while hiking the Absaroka Mountain range in Wyoming back in 2008! Serendipitously, Amrit and his wife and partner in HQF, Kate, were in Berlin last year for a travel and tourism conference, allowing us to reconnect after all of these years. The timing was just so that I saw them prior to leaving for my summit in the Himalayas in January. The time in the rural mountain areas opened my eyes to the beauty of the landscape, culture and people of that region. The experience also shed a light on the inequalities of basic needs and finances those communities face in their everyday life. As our journeys came together, I was moved to collaborate with Amrit, Kate and their foundation.
Amrit and Kate established the Himalayan Quests Foundation out of their home in Nepal, to run and manage the ever-increasing number of social projects that their sister company, Himalayan Quests began, starting with the first series of free health camps in the spring of 2013. After great effort with local government in 2022, HQF finally received all the necessary permissions to start work on a planned water, sanitation and hygiene program (WASH). It is through the WASH program that HQF works in tandem with local government schools, district education offices and health posts to improve/install water supply, sanitation and hygiene facilities in rural government schools in Nepal, in order to provide the basic right to each child in education of clean drinking water, proper toilet facilities with running water and soap for handwashing, and thus a safe, hygienic school environment in which to thrive in.
My motivating force in training and completing the three races is to provide much needed donations to further HQF's WASH program. The impact of your donation will move mountains for these schools and children. Anni and I will be matching your donations dollar for dollar and if we hit the combined budgeted goal of $10,000 total, that will translate into WASH programs being delivered to 10 rural schools in the district!
Here is a direct link to the GoFundMe page. Thank you with my deepest gratitude for your consideration to donate whatever amount feels comfortable. Truly no amount is too small. Your support will play a vital role in providing essential care and resources to thousands of children in Nepal. If you have any questions or would like further information, please don't hesitate to reach out. I truly appreciate your generosity and belief in this cause. Without you, this would not be possible!
Best wishes,
Alex
